Let the racing begin!

Courageous Sailing Center hosted the kickoff to the high school sailing season with 17 of the area's top high schools competing on the harbor. Over 100 students fought heavy winds and currents with only two brave sailors taking a swim and one main sail surrendering to the gusts. The winds were steady the whole day and picked up towards the end, forcing the boats to return to the docks for a quick reef before the final race. Everybody did a great job out there with top honors going to Winchester High. Thank you very much to Courageous for hosting the day's events and the Mass Bay League for officiating.

Day 1: Snow or Shine!

Today was the first day for the Boston Public Sailing Team on the water and it was definitely a test of our will! The students arrived at Courageous to find snow blowing sideways and the flag about to fly off the pole. Strangely, everybody was still eager to get out on the water! Our coaches, Chris Dubois and Rosemary Lyons, held a short classroom session where the basics were reviewed while we waited to see what the weather would do. Chris made the call to Dave and we were ready to hit the water! The students divided into two boats, rigged, and began the very first season of the Boston Public Sailing Team. It was a cold hour or so on the water but everybody had a huge smile as they made their way across the harbor. Today was just a refresher day to give the kids a chance to brush up on their skills. Great job to Elisabeth, Kelsey, and Taylor. Looking forward to David joining us on Wednesday!

Cocktails For Courageous

The Boston Public Schools High School Team was officially kicked off at the recent "Cocktails for Courageous" held at the Sail Loft. About 125 supporters showed up to the event in support of the team. The event raised the necessary funds to get the team up and running this spring! The night could not have happened if it weren't for the support of Courageous Sailing Center, the Sail Loft, and the event sponsor, Zim Sailing.
